Just an ordinary guy who wanted to make a website.
Well, I got sick of the idea that modern social media websites, e.g., TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, were the preferred way to express oneself on the internet. The longer answer...is at the bottom of this page.
Plenty of things. Here's an (unfinished) list:
I think many, if not most would agree with me that the internet used to be better. Of course, the smaller details like how "Frutiger Aero" dominated the early web, are not really the reason for this. (Though I personally love the aesthetic.)
The real reason that the old internet was "better" was that it was more lively and personal. Many people who used the internet created and personalized a space that was all theirs. And even better, they could view what their friends, or even strangers' personalized spaces too.
In addition, one of the primary reasons people used the internet was to explore. To take a journey, and see what they could find. In today's internet, people mainly gather on the same ten websites, all being fed content selected by a mindless algorithm, meant to keep them hooked.
Of course, I'm not here to claim that "everything was perfect back then," or "everything's terrible nowadays."
But the reality is that the internet went from an free, almost anarchic place where everybody was equal and people could do almost anything, to being controlled by soulless capitalism.
That's why I made this website.
